Little info about your Eating Habits Can Make You Happier!???

Many people seeking help for mental health issues look first to chemical intervention in the form of a medication. There is another chemical intervention which you can utilize yourself - your diet. Having a healthy diet is crucial when trying to fight for your mental health, especially where mood disorders are concerned. How can dietary changes affect depression, anxiety and mood swings?

Good mental health is about maintaining balance, in your thoughts, in your actions and especially in your emotions. When addressing nutrition for mental health it is important to understand how food nourishes and fuels your body as well as the part it plays in providing your body with necessary nutrients for maintaining that balance that it is important for peace of mind.

1. Complex Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are the body's preferred source of energy. Your body will burn carbohydrates first before turning to protein or fats. A lack of energy sources in the body will result in the body shutting down and altering activity levels. People who are chronically tired often feel sad and hopeless as a result. To keep your emotions on an even keel it is important to have a slow steady stream of carbohydrates broken down and made available in the bloodstream for energy.

People struggling with depression and/or mood swings often rely heavily on simple carbohydrates (sugars) rather than complex carbohydrates (starches). Simple carbohydrates (candies, table sugar, honey, sodas, fruits, milk products) break down quickly in the bloodstream and hit it with a bang that provides immediate energy. This is why they are preferred by people with depression. However, what goes up must come down, usually with the same speed and intensity. The surge of energy is followed by a crash when the sugar is quickly burned up. This crash exacerbates depression, fatigue, impaired concentration and memory and irritability. However, all simple carbohydrates are not equal. There is a difference between the simplest carbohydrates like table sugar, sodas and candies which are referred to as "empty calories" because they provide so much glucose, an easily broken down form of sugar, and no nutritional value. Compare these with fruits and milk products whose sugars (fructose and galactose respectively) are somewhat harder to break down, enter the bloodstream a bit more gradually and have a somewhat milder crash and provide significant nutrition such as vitamin C and calcium. If you are craving something sweet have an apple or orange rather than a candy bar.

Complex carbohydrates (whole grains, starchy vegetables and beans) are even harder for the body to metabolize and provide and slow, constant stream of fuel for the body's energy demands. This avoids the peaks and crashes of the simple carbohydrates. Whole grains also provide lots of B vitamins which calm and stabilize the mood and help your body metabolize carbohydrates for increased energy.

2. Proteins

It is important to eat high quality proteins like chicken, fish, turkey, soy, dairy products and beans. (I am a very big fan of beans. They are usually high in protein, low in fat and high in fiber.) Proteins are made of amino acids. Your body uses amino acids to make neurotransmitters in the brain. These chemicals (like serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and GABA) are the chemicals which antidepressants and anxiolytics (anti-anxiety medications) seek to increase to improve your mood and calm you. Chicken and turkey are also high in tryptophan, which the body also uses to make serotonin, one of the primary neurotransmitters for lifting and calming the mood. Running short on these neurotransmitters results in depression, irritability, difficulty thinking and remembering, insomnia, fatigue and anxiety. Having sufficient stores of these neurotransmitters available to the brain helps it regulate emotions and thinking. Providing your body with the necessary ingredients to manufacture these neurotransmitters is vital for improving your mental health and keeping things in balance.

3. Fats

The benefits of a low fat diet for fighting weight gain and heart disease have been highly touted. However, many don't realize that limiting your fat intake too severely of healthy fats can result in serious mood changes, irritability and aggression. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish have been found to help stabilize mood swings and decrease stress. "Good fats" burn clean in the bloodstream compared to "bad fats" which clog the arteries and narrow the blood vessels. Good fats include olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocadoes and fish. Exchange that fried chicken for a grilled salmon. Replace a mayonnaise dressing with an olive oil and vinegar splash.

4. Caffeine

It's always amazing to me to find people struggling with serious anxiety problems who are still drinking a significant amount of caffeine everyday. Since I don't drink caffeine on a regular basis I have no tolerance for it and it literally makes me shake when I do drink it. I can't imagine throwing that in on top of an anxiety problem. If anxiety is the problem, I would eliminate caffeine all together and see if it helps.

For people with mood disorders, caffeine provides a serious rush of energy, but like simple carbohydrates (sugars) you crash when it wears off. This peak and crash pattern is not good for people trying to stabilize mood swings and the crash will exacerbate depressive symptoms.

Pap tests result in more STDs?

Teen girls can skip Pap tests, according to new guidelines that say women should start cervical cancer screening at age 21. But some experts are concerned that rates of sexually transmitted diseases or unplanned pregnancies could increase without the Pap test to prompt a doctor's visit.
As it stands, as many as one in four U.S. teenage girls has had an STD at some point in her life, often soon after she becomes sexually active, according to research published this week in Pediatrics.
"I am concerned that without the recommendation for young women to get Pap smears early on, they will lose important opportunities to seek advice and to learn about their health -- particularly their sexual health -- at a time in their lives when they need it most," says Kimberly Spector, an adolescent-health educator in Los Angeles, California. "Regardless of the tests performed during a gynecologist visit, the conversation regarding sexual health risks and preventative measures can be very informative and empowering for young patients."
In the past, women were told to start Pap tests, which can detect abnormal cells in the cervix, three years after becoming sexually active or at age 21 -- whichever came first. However, these abnormal cells often go away on their own, particularly in young women. If they don't, such cells grow so slowly that catching them at age 21 is still early enough to remove them before they become cancerous. And catching them sooner could lead to unnecessary tests and treatments that sometimes damage the cervix, increasing the risk for a premature birth later in life.

Carmelo drops 50! and wins over Knicks!

IDOL!! Carmelo Anthony scored a career-high 50 points, and the Denver Nuggets beat the New York Knicks 128-125 Friday night for their 17th straight regular-season home win.

Al Harrington had 41 points - one shy of his career high - for the Knicks, who lost their fourth straight. David Lee added 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Anthony scored 13 points in the third quarter, helping the Nuggets take a 92-87 lead into the final period. The Knicks remained within striking distance, tying it at 100 with 7:56 left when Chris Andersen was called for goaltending on Nate Robinson's short jump hook.

Neither team was able to seize a decisive edge, though.

J.R. Smith and Wilson Chandler traded 3-pointers in one sequence that left the Nuggets up 110-107. The Knicks scored the next four points, moving in front 111-110 on Lee's dunk off a feed from Larry Hughes with 3:35 remaining.

That would be the Knicks' final lead.

Anthony hit a pair of free throws and Smith made his third 3-pointer of the period to give the Nuggets a 115-111 lead.

A three-point play by Harrington brought the Knicks within 123-120 with 38 seconds left, but Chauncey Billups, who had 32 points, answered with a reverse layup.

Chandler hit a 3-pointer before Anthony converted a pair of free throws to help the Nuggets withstand the Knicks charge. Harrington added a basket late but Smith made one of two free throws and the Knicks couldn't get a shot off in the final seconds.

Loosening up the Nuggets' defense with their early outside shooting, the Knicks began penetrating to convert from in close. During a 10-2 second-quarter spree that put the Knicks up 52-44, Harrington had a pair of dunks, Danilo Gallinari added another and Lee had a layup along with a pair of free throws after being fouled inside.

But the Nuggets pulled into a tie at 59-all on a dunk by Anthony and took a 61-60 halftime lead when Billups drove in for a layup with a 2.9 seconds left.

The Knicks came out shooting well from long range, converting five 3-pointers in the first quarter, when they took a 30-26 lead. Harrington's nine points in the quarter all came on 3-pointers.

NOTES: The Nuggets' last regular-season loss at the Pepsi Center was to Houston, 97-95 on March 9. ... Knicks guard Chris Duhon limped off the court at halftime after turning his ankle taking a last-second shot, but he returned to play in the second half. ... Anthony's previous scoring high was 49 points

Iverson a.k.a AI will resign.

I was sad when i heard that AI will resign.. I'm a huge fan of his legacy in the NBA i hope this season for him will be memorable.

With no apparent interest from NBA teams, Allen Iverson is set to retire, according to an online report.

Commentator Stephen A. Smith published a statement on his Web site Wednesday attributed to Iverson. It said Iverson plans to retire but also that "I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level."

The statement also said Iverson has tremendous love for the game and the desire to play, adding there is "a whole lot left in my tank."

"His legacy would be huge," Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star LeBron James said. "He's one of the best when you talk about guys 6-foot and under in the game of basketball. He played injured and he played hard every single night. I don't think it should end this way, but if it does, he's left a lot of great things behind."

The 10-time All-Star played three games this season with Memphis before taking a leave of absence to attend to personal matters. He was waived after the two sides agreed to part ways.

It was the second straight ugly ending for Iverson, who was unhappy last season playing for the Pistons. He was upset that Detroit coach Michael Curry and Memphis' Lionel Hollins used the former MVP as a reserve.

The New York Knicks considered signing Iverson last week after he cleared waivers, before deciding he would take too much playing time away from younger players they are trying to develop.

The Knicks seemed to be the only team who would consider bringing in Iverson, so there was no guarantee he'd play in the NBA this season, anyway. Still, the announcement Wednesday came as a surprise to George Karl, who coached Iverson in Denver.

"I think he still has something left to give some team out there. If that's his decision, he'll go down in history, I think, as the greatest little guard ever to play the game of basketball," Karl said.

"I was happy to have him for a couple years and hopefully our paths will cross. But I have a sneaky feeling that somewhere along the way an injury or a circumstance with a team will open that window back up."

One of the NBA's great scorers, Iverson entered this season with a career average of 27.1 points that ranked fifth all time. Yet there was almost no interest in him this summer before he went to the Grizzlies on a one-year deal.

Iverson can still score, as he averaged 17.4 points with the Pistons last season. Yet he has made it clear he doesn't view himself as a backup, which has likely hurt his chances of signing with a contending team.

"It's sad man, especially coming from a guy that's close to me and a friend," former Nuggets teammate Carmelo Anthony said. "To see him go out the way he's going out right now, it's not like he wants to go out, he's almost being forced to retire. It's a bad situation right now.

"It was just, he got dealt a bad hand from when he went to Detroit up to right now. Everything kind of spiraled downhill. I never want to see nobody go through nothing like that, especially a guy with his talent, somebody who can still go out there and be productive."

The 6-foot guard thanked former players and coaches in the statement, plus the fans in Memphis and Philadelphia, where he spent his best years. He said stepping away would allow him to spend more time with his wife and kids.

He also said he thought he could still play after 14 seasons.

"I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn't help my team the way that I was accustomed to," it read. "However, that is not the case."

Messages were left for Iverson's agent, Leon Rose, and his business manager, Gary Moore.

If this is the end for Iverson, he leaves with four scoring titles and a playoff scoring average of 29.7 points that ranks second only to Michael Jordan. He led the 76ers to the 2001 NBA finals but never won a championship.

Or he could choose to wait and see if a team in need of a scorer comes looking for him later this season.

"I don't ever believe anyone retires until they get to the point they have to," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "He had a great career if it is true, but I still think he has more to offer."

RP gets 1st batch of A(H1N1) vaccines.

After a long months of wait RP gets 1st batch of A(H1N1) vaccines. Poor Philippines! tsk tsk tsk..

The Philippines received its first batch of A(H1N1) vaccines from the World Health Organization (WHO) Thursday morning, Malacañang said.

A Palace statement said that the WHO turned over the influenza vaccines to the Philippine government during a ceremony at Bahay Pangarap in Malacañang.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo received the vaccines from Dr. Soe-Nyunt-U, WHO country representative to the Philippines, the statement said.

The donation was made under a memorandum of agreement signed by WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III last Nov. 25.

WHO will supply the country's need for the flu vaccines manufactured by CSL Limited, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals SA, Green Cross Corporation, MedImmune LLC, Novartis AG and Sanofi Pasteur SA.

The Philippines is the first country to receive such a donation, the statement noted.

Government is undertaking preemptive moves for a possible second wave of A(H1N1) infections, even as health officials reassured the public there is no sign of the A(H1N1) virus growing nastier.

Last month, Duque said his department is in constant communication with the WHO, and there is no sign of a more severe strain of the A(H1N1) virus.

“We are in constant contact with WHO. There is no evidence up to now of a nastier strain of the AH1N1 virus. So our mitigation and containment measures will remain," Duque said in a radio interview then.

Duque reiterated there is no cause for alarm as far as A(H1N1) is concerned even if the virus is already in the Philippines, saying it is already considered a pandemic.

Besides, he said, more than 99 percent of A(H1N1) cases in the Philippines had recovered, with the 30 who died having suffered from other diseases like heart and liver disease.

In August 5, 2009, the WHO reported that 1,154 have died since the virus emerged in April.

More than 300 of the new deaths were in the Americas, bringing the death toll in that region to 1,008 since the virus first emerged in Mexico and the United States, and developed into the global epidemic, the WHO said.

It added that is no evidence that the new virus is mutating into a more dangerous form.

Do references really matter? - interesting topic!

I get interested with this article maybe this would help hehe! Read the full details:

The importance of references seems to be a hot topic these days. Employers want to make sure they are hiring the right person for the job; but some thwart the process because checking references can be labor-intensive. On the other hand, job seekers provide references they know will give a glowing report, but employers are getting smarter and finding references you didn't provide.

So, what's the deal? Do references matter? Do employers even check them anymore? What's the protocol for providing them to a potential employer? Who are the best people to include as references? And, if an employer doesn't call any of your references, is it a bad sign?

While the definitive answer to any of these questions depends on the employer, overall, yes, references do still matter. The process has just changed.
"References play a huge role in the hiring process, perhaps now more than ever," said Heather R. Huhman, founder and president of Come Recommended, an online community that connects internship and entry-level job candidates with employers." Oftentimes, hiring managers fall in love with a candidate on paper and then again in an interview, only to find out through a reference check that none of their previous employers would ever hire them again. By checking a candidate's references, hiring managers save themselves the frustration of hiring a person who is not a good fit for a company. In this economy, where hiring budgets are slim, every hire must be a great fit."

Provided references are no guarantee
Though the majority of employers do check references, others skip this step. Not only is it labor-intensive to check references for people who might not be poised for a job offer, but Jack Harsh, adjunct professor at the University of Richmond Robins School of Business, said that many employers worry about the risk of liability in rejecting a candidate based on poor references.
"[Hiring] decisions cannot be based on information that is discriminatory in nature, so to avoid any liability, the checks are forgone," Harsh said. "Sadly, the first reference the employer gets in such cases is from colleagues after employment has begun."

Steve Langerud, director of career development at Depauw University, adds that sometimes, the quality of references is benign.
"Everyone wants to be helpful and supportive to former employees, but in the end, they offer little substance to a new employer," he says. "Legally, they are limited by what they can or want to say about former employees. I think the old formal system of references is dead in most professional fields."

Langerud warns that just because an employer isn't checking personal references the traditional way doesn't mean he isn't checking references at all.
"Employers are more likely to check the informal, but tangible, behavioral reference sources like LinkedIn, Facebook, credit history [or] criminal history than the more subjective references provided by candidates," he said. "Candidates should be much more intentional about crafting a professional identity that serves the role of a 'reference' but within the context of the work, profession and colleagues you seek to engage. It eliminates the weaknesses inherent in the old style of references that become so watered down they are useless."

Making the right choices
The last thing you want to do is give an employer useless references, but many job seekers make the mistake of not taking the time to thoughtfully choose the right people to speak on their behalf, said Elaine Varelas, managing partner for Keystone Partners, an outplacement and talent management consulting firm.
"You want people who can speak to your role as a professional, not as a nice neighbor," Varelas said. "Candidates can make their references count by prepping them to discuss their specific skills as they relate to the job and the impact they brought to the job, which can be just the differentiation needed in this highly competitive market."
Harsh agrees that when he receives a résumé with references attached, he gives them virtually no weight.

"They seldom are specific to the role my company seeks and are not meaningful in considering qualifications or traits of successful candidate," he said.
Finally, when it comes to protocol for submitting references, the process has changed as well. It used to be that applicants sent them in with their other application materials, but now, Varelas says, you should wait to provide references until you are asked.

"Most companies do not want your references until the end of the process and they will let you know when to provide a list of names and contact information. Do not send written references," she said. "These do not offer the highest impact as they are not specific on how you will fit into the job you are pursuing. It is better to spend your time preparing your references for the kinds of questions they will be asked, and what they can do to help you close an offer."

Helpful hints
Harsh, Varelas and Langerud offer these 10 tips to ensure you do everything right when it comes to providing references:
1. Include references only when requested by an employer.
2. Carefully consider whom to provide after discussion with the prospective employer. The time to check references is before an offer is made, but after the candidate is either the final candidate or among the final few for the job.
3. Seek references from people who actually know you and your work. Ask for permission to list them as a reference.
4. Ask directly if they can provide you with a positive reference for the position(s) you are seeking. If they hesitate, move on!
5. Prepare your references about who will be calling them and what to focus on when talking about you. Always ask them to call you after they have been called.
6. Prepare your references to speak consistently about your skills, but not identically. Suggest a different highlight for each person. Have 100 percent confidence in what they will say and how they speak about you, or cross them off the list.
7. Provide accurate contact information about your references, and ask your references how they prefer to be contacted (e-mail, phone, etc.).
8. Let your references know what happens to you and the position(s) you applied for. Thank your references.
9. Prepare a LinkedIn site to demonstrate your skills and interests.
10. Participate in professional blogs to create a history of professional involvement in your field that is independent of your work history.

This song pumps me up!!

Feel it coming in the air

Back to running circles ’round niggas, now we squared up

Life’s a game but it’s not fair
I break the rules so I don’t care
So I keep doing my own thing
Walking tall against the rain
Victory’s within the mile
Almost there, don’t give up now
Only thing that’s on my mind
Is who gon’ run this town tonight

This a fast life, we are on a crash course
What you think I rap for? To push a f@#kin’ Rav 4?
But I know that if I stay stunting
All these girls only gon’ want one thing
I could spend my whole life good will hunting
Only good gon’ come is it’s good when I’m coming
She got an ass that’ll swallow up her G-string
And up top, uh, two bee stings
And I’m beasting, off the re-sling
And my nigga just made it out the precinct
We give a damn about the drama that you do bring

Have you ever had shoes without shoestrings?

This is not good..--> 200 Web sites spread al-Qaida's message in English

Increasing numbers of English-language Web sites are spreading al-Qaida's message to Muslims in the West. They translate writings and sermons once largely out of reach of English readers and often feature charismatic clerics like Anwar al-Awlaki, who exchanged dozens of e-mails with the Army psychiatrist accused of the Fort Hood shootings.
The U.S.-born al-Awlaki has been an inspiration to several militants arrested in the United States and Canada in recent years, with his Web-based sermons often turning up on their computers.
"The point is you don't have to be an official part of al-Qaida to spread hatred and sectarian views," said Evan Kohlmann, a senior investigator for the New York-based NEFA Foundation, which researches Islamic militants.
"If you look at the most influential documents in terms of homegrown terrorism cases, it's not training manuals on building bombs," Kohlmann said. "The most influential documents are the ones that are written by theological advisers, some of whom are not even official al-Qaida members."
Most of the radical Islamic sites are not run or directed by al-Qaida, but they provide a powerful tool for recruiting sympathizers to its cause of jihad, or holy war, against the United States, experts who track the activity said.
The number of English-language sites sympathetic to al-Qaida has risen from about 30 seven years ago to more than 200 recently, said Abdulmanam Almushawah, head of a Saudi government program called Assakeena, which works to combat militant Islamic Web sites.
In contrast, Arabic-language radical sites have dropped to around 50, down from 1,000 seven years ago, because of efforts by governments around the world to shut them down, he said.
Al-Qaida has long tried to reach a Western audience. Videotaped messages from its leader, Osama bin Laden, and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri usually have English subtitles. But translations of writings and sermons that form the theological grounding for al-Qaida's ideology, along with preachers like al-Awlaki, mostly eliminate the language barrier.
Al-Awlaki's sermons have turned up on the computers of nearly every homegrown terror suspect arrested in the United States, Kohlmann said.
Members of a group of Canadian Muslims arrested in 2006 for allegedly forming a training camp and plotting bombing attacks in Toronto listened to his online calls for jihad, according to the case against them in court. According to prosecutors, an al-Awlaki sermon on jihad was among the numerous materials — including videos of beheadings — found on the computers of five men convicted in December of plotting attacks on the Fort Dix military base in New Jersey.
On his Web site and in widely circulated lectures, the 38-year-old al-Awlaki, now in hiding in Yemen, often calls on Muslims to fight against the United States, accusing it of waging war on Islam in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Nidal Hasan, who has been charged in the Fort Hood shootings, contacted al-Awlaki nearly a year ago. In an interview published in The Washington Post, al-Awlaki said he did not pressure Hasan to carry out the shooting, but after the attack, al-Awlaki praised him as a hero. U.S. investigators have said Hasan appears to have acted alone, not on orders from anyone, when he opened fire Nov. 5 at the Texas military base, killing 13.
The cleric met two of the 9/11 hijackers at mosques where he preached in the United States, and after his return to Yemen he was detained for more than a year on suspicion of involvement in a kidnapping gang. Yemeni officials released him because they could not confirm an al-Qaida link, but they say they are hunting for him again on suspicion he may have ties.
U.S. intelligence officials declined comment on the spread of English-language jihadist Web sites.
Such sites are expected to follow closely the upcoming trials of Hasan and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is accused of being a top architect of the 9/11 attacks, said Rita Katz, head of the U.S. based SITE Intelligence Group, which follows on line militant traffic. The Obama administration announced this week that Mohammed and four others will be put on trial in New York City.
Almushawah said clerics like al-Awlaki are "more dangerous than any other group." And if these clerics are jailed, "it's no big loss for al-Qaida because they don't belong to the network," he said.
Many of the sites post speeches by English-speaking clerics like al-Awlaki or, more often, translations of sermons and lectures by Arabic-speaking clerics.
One site, the Pulpit of Monotheism and Jihad links to sermons by al-Awlaki, alongside English versions of speeches by some of the top sheikhs of jihadist ideology — even some who are dead like Abdullah Azzam.
The proliferation of sites in English means "potential jihadists can know only their native language and still be radicalized," Katz said.
While al-Awlaki has become popular, "other, more prominent and influential Arabic-speaking jihadist sheikhs ... have had their works and speeches translated into English and other languages. Their works tend to be used more often by the jihadist community to justify violence," she said in an e-mail interview. Al-Awlaki "fills a void in that he can directly interact, understand and communicate with English-speaking jihadists in a way that Arabic-speaking clerics cannot."
Almushawah says most of the servers for the sites are in Britain, but they can be run from anywhere and most of them are operated and receive content from the U.S. Most of the clerics who appear on them are in the Arab world with some in France and England.
U.S. intelligence officials declined to comment on the spread of English language sites and their influence.
Saudi Arabia set up its Assakeena program after authorities found that 70 percent of al-Qaida sympathizers were drawn to the group through the Internet. In the campaign, government-backed preachers monitor 400 radical Islamic web sites and inject a more moderate message on the sites.
The campaigners also directly contact and dialogue with militants they encounter on the Web, conversations that can take weeks or months. Of 2,631 militants contacted by the group, 1,170 withdrew their support for radicals, according to the campaign. About a fifth of the militants were from Europe and North American, and the rest from Arab countries.
Assakeena — the name is Arabic for "Tranquility from God" — is part of other hearts-and-minds programs the kingdom launched to complement its crackdown on al-Qaida after the group carried out a series of attacks on foreigners and oil infrastructure in 2004.

Health News: Stem Cells May Improve Heart Bypass Results

This is cool read this --> TUESDAY, Nov. 17 (HealthDay News) -- Patients who received bone marrow stem cell transplants during coronary bypass surgery (CABG) experienced "excellent long-term safety and survival," say German researchers, who also noted the first promising results for stem cell transplantation during mitral valve repair.
The study included 35 patients who received CD 133+ bone marrow stem cell transplantation during CABG, 20 patients who received only CABG surgery and 10 patients who received stem cell transplantation after mitral valve repair.
Long-term survival among patients in the stem cell transplant/CAGB group was up to five years. Three patients in the stem cell/mitral valve repair group died six months to a year after surgery, including two who developed progressive heart failure, the researchers noted.
The University of Rostock researchers found no sustained or adverse tissue changes in the patients who received stem cell transplants. The stem cell/CABG patients scored better on assessments of clinical effects than those who had only CABG surgery. Both CABG groups had preserved ventricular function, but left ventricular end diastolic volume decreased in the stem cell/CABG patients.
Decreased left ventricular end diastolic volume was also noted in the stem cell/mitral valve repair patients. Two years after the procedure, improved heart function was seen in these patients.
Blood flow scores increased significantly for CABG and mitral valve repair patients who received stem cell transplants, the study authors noted.

UFC 106, Griffin outlasts Ortiz.

In a rematch between two of the most popular fighters in the history of mixed martial arts, Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz by split decision in a hard-fought battle Saturday night at UFC 106.
Just over a minute into the first round, Ortiz landed a takedown and got on top of Griffin, landing punches from inside his guard just as he did early in their epic battle at UFC 59 in 2006, which Ortiz won in a controversial split decision. But Griffin showed that he's improved as a fighter since then, breaking free and getting back to his feet, and landing more effective strikes than Ortiz on his feet.
In the second round, Ortiz again took Griffin down in the early going and landed punches and elbows from inside Griffin's guard. But Griffin, again, got back to his feet, where he used kicks effectively, including kicking Ortiz's mouthpiece right out of his mouth midway through the round. It was late in the second round when Ortiz took Griffin down and landed several elbows to Griffin's face, bloodying him badly. They had a back-and-forth battle on the ground that continued until the bell.
The third round opened with Griffin coming out charging hard, throwing kicks and punches that backed Ortiz up against the cage, and Griffin's striking was much more effective than Ortiz's. At the three-minute mark of the third round, Ortiz shot for a takedown, but Griffin stuffed it. After that it was clear that Griffin was going to control the round, and that's what he did, landing punches and kicks that Ortiz simply had no answer for.
The judges scored the fight 29-28 for Ortiz, 30-27 for Griffin and 29-28 for Griffin. The split decision was a surprise; it's hard to see how any judge would score the fight for Ortiz.
"It feels great, man," Griffin said afterward. "Tito was a great fight for me to come back. I think we're going to have to do a third. It's one and one now. ... We'll do it again."
It was Ortiz's first fight since May of 2008, when he lost to Lyoto Machida. Since then Ortiz has gone through back surgery and a contract dispute with UFC President Dana White, but now Ortiz is back in the Octagon. Ortiz appeared to be in good shape, but any athlete is going to have trouble after such a long layoff, and Ortiz was slower than the Tito of old. Ortiz, whose record falls to 15-7-1, is still a big draw for the UFC, but he's not an elite MMA fighter.
Ortiz said afterward that he was suffering from a back injury and from a cracked skull, and the fans booed what sounded like Ortiz making excuses. That led Griffin to admonish the crowd to show respect to Ortiz, and when Ortiz asked the fans, "Were you guys satisfied with the show?" they cheered.
But it was Griffin who got most of the cheers as he rebounded from his back-to-back losses to Rashad Evans and Anderson Silva. Griffin is a Top 10 light heavyweight and might get a light heavyweight title shot in 2010. He improved his record to 17-6, and he earned his place near the top of the light heavyweight division on Saturday night. He put on a good show.

Proud To Be PINOY!! Efren Peñaflorida is 2009 CNN Hero of the Year!

Your the MAN! Mr. Efren Peñaflorida you make us proud!!

Embodying the spirit of Filipino volunteerism that bloomed in this stormy year, Efren Peñaflorida Jr. was named CNN Hero of the Year, the international news network announced on Sunday (Manila time). The Cavite City native pioneered a brand of mobile education, or the "pushcart classroom," for urban poor youth.

Peñaflorida, fondly called "Kuya F," was named 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. In his acceptance speech, he said: "Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need." Sophia Dedace file photo "Efren Peñaflorida, who started a ‘pushcart classroom’ in the Philippines to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership, has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year," the world-renowned Cable News Network said in an article posted on its Web site.

The 28-year-old Peñaflorida will receive $100,000 from CNN. The network's top anchor Anderson Cooper announced the winner at the conclusion of the annual awards ceremony.

Earlier, Peñaflorida told GMANews.TV that should he win, he would pledge the prize money to the children that his group, the Dynamic Teen Company, is helping.

In his acceptance speech at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CNN quoted him as saying: "Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve. As I always tell my co-volunteers... you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be."

The taped event will be aired on November 26, CNN said.

Peñaflorida won over nine other "CNN heroes," seven of whom were American. One of them, 20-year-old Jordan Thomas, lost both his legs in a boating accident and set up a foundation that provides prosthetics to poor children who have also lost limbs.

News of Peñaflorida's selection spread briskly among Filipinos through the Internet. One Facebook user, Kristine Fonacier, had recently spent a year as a volunteer in Guyana. "We need all the hope that we can get from our Manny Pacquiaos," Fonacier wrote. "But here Efren Penaflorida has made a name for himself on the global stage not because he's enormously successful or fabulously wealthy, but because he's given his time to 'helping others.' It's such a simple but world-changing idea, and it's high time we Filipinos get behind it."

Last October, CNN opened the online voting for its Top 10 Heroes. Peñaflorida said that being included in the top 10 alone was already an honor. Still, he refused to take credit for the recognition. "If the people vote for me, they are actually voting for the poor kids DTC is teaching and the dedicated volunteers behind this work," he earlier said.

CNN said more than 2.75 million votes were cast during the seven-week online voting. The network, however, did not indicate how many votes Peñaflorida got.

Peñaflorida, who hails from Cavite City in Cavite province Philippines, started the Dynamic Teen Company in 1997.

His group used “Kariton Klassrooms" or mobile pushcarts to reach out and teach underprivileged children [See: A CNN hero started with a pushcart full of hopes].

The DTC has now over 2,000 members teaching basic reading and writing, and even personal hygiene to marginalized children in slum areas in Cavite using pushcarts filled with books, pens, tables and chairs.

Efren Peñaflorida, who started a "pushcart classroom" in the Philippines to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership, has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year.

CNN's Anderson Cooper revealed Peñaflorida's selection at the conclusion of the third-annual "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday night.

The gala event, taped before an audience of 3,000 at the Kodak Theatre, premieres on Thanksgiving, November 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the global networks of CNN.

The broadcast, which honors the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2009, features performances by Grammy Award-winning artist Carrie Underwood, R&B crooner Maxwell and British pop sensation Leona Lewis.

Peñaflorida, who will receive $100,000 to continue his work with the Dynamic Teen Company, was selected after seven weeks of online voting at CNN.com. More than 2.75 million votes were cast.

"Our planet is filled with heroes, young and old, rich and poor, man, woman of different colors, shapes and sizes. We are one great tapestry," Peñaflorida said upon accepting the honor. "Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need.

"So to each and every person inside in this theater and for those who are watching at home, the hero in you is waiting to be unleashed. Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve. As I always tell to my co-volunteers ... you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be.

Cavs gets defensive at the right time.. goods!!

Another Lebron show! Cleveland wins 97-91 over the Sixers. When LeBron James is this good, you have no chance. You may think you do, but you would only be kidding yourself.
That's the lesson learned following Cleveland's 97-91 dismantling of Philadelphia on Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.
James did it from inside and outside, with his back to the basket and right at the rim. He threw lob passes in the half-court, behind-the-back passes off the fast break, pinpoint bounce passes that led to easy baskets and dunks.
And that was just the first quarter.
As 76ers coach Eddie Jordan said with a shake of the head, "He's a very special player."
Cavaliers coach Mike Brown added with a smile, "LeBron was LeBron. Nothing ceases to amaze me when it comes to him."
By the end of the game, James had tallied 32 points on a sizzling 13-for-20 shooting, nine assists and seven rebounds. By the end of the night, the Sixers were reminded of what they already knew -- that if you allow it to become All LeBron, All The Time, you're in deep trouble.
James emerged from the weekend with an average of 36 points per game, having scored 40 in Indiana on Friday. Just as he did the previous night against the Pacers, James lifted the Cavs with a big basket, pass or rebound whenever it seemed like the Sixers might be dreaming of an upset.
And for a while, there was indeed hope.
The Sixers overcame a 36-23 deficit in the first quarter to take an 81-75 lead at the end of the third.
But for the second time in two nights, the Cavs showed that along with a high-powered offense based around good old No. 23, they can still shut you down when the need arises.
Friday in Indiana, they held the Pacers to 13 fourth-quarter points. Saturday at home, they held the Sixers to 10.
Credit belongs to guys like Cavs reserve forwards Jamario Moon and Anderson Varejao, men who are always looking to step into a passing lane, chase down a loose ball, and basically find ways to distract the opposition.
"Obviously, Jamario's length and energy coming off the bench was big for us," Brown said. "Andy and [Zydrunas Ilgauskas] did a nice job starting us off on the defensive end of the floor, and then Mo [Williams] hit some big shots. Everyone was on a string. Everyone helped one another and trusted one another. It was great to see."
Of the group Brown mentioned, Williams had the best night statistically, finishing with 18 points and tying Ilgauskas with a team-high eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Jordan was considerably more pleased with his team's effort than he was after Friday's home loss to Memphis. One of the reason's was the Sixers' own No. 23, guard Lou Williams, who scored a team-high 22 points.
Another was forward Elton Brand, who accumulated 18 points and 14 boards. Also, Thaddeus Young scored 21 points.
"I have no problem with our effort tonight," Jordan said. "I have no problem with a lot of things we did tonight. We rose to the challenge in a tough environment. I like the way we executed, I like the way we talked. It was a different team from what we saw [Friday]. We just didn't win the game."
Sixers guard Andre Iguodala, who struggled by making just six of 22 shots, agreed with his coach.
"Something that we do sometimes is kind of play to our level of competition," Iguodala said. "We raised our level of play tonight. We had them against the ropes. It was just a matter of not being able to make shots."
Mostly, it was a matter of too much James. And for Cavs' opponents, it's only likely to get tougher.
"I watch a lot of film and do a lot of critiquing of myself," James said. "Just to see where I need to get better."
After weekends like this, it's downright scary to envision that happening.

Canadian woman loses benefits over Facebook photo.. Oooohhhh babes dont try this ok>?!? hahah!

Filipinas don't try this. Read the article.. - A Canadian woman on long-term sick leave for depression says she lost her benefits because her insurance agent found photos of her on Facebook in which she appeared to be having fun.
Nathalie Blanchard has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Quebec, for the last year.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Saturday she was diagnosed with major depression and was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from insurance giant Manulife.
But the payments dried up this fall and when Blanchard called Manulife, she says she was told she was available to work because of Facebook.
She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on Facebook, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a sun holiday.
Blanchard said Manulife told her it's evidence she is no longer depressed. She's fighting to get her benefits reinstated and says her lawyer is exploring what the next step should be.
Blanchard told the CBC that on her doctor's advice, she tried to have fun, including nights out at her local bar with friends and short getaways to sun destinations, as a way to forget her problems.
Manulife wouldn't comment on Blanchard's case, but did say they would not deny or terminate a claim solely based on information published on Web sites such as Facebook.

Lebron drops 40!! AWESOME!!

Another Lebron show last friday night in Indiana.. The King scores 40 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assist! how bout that! haha! Also Mo Williams drops 18 points, Anthony Parker drops 12 points and J.Hickson drops 15pts. to sparks cavs rally over Pacers. Here's the game story from nba.com: LeBron James enjoys the challenge of playing Danny Granger.
On Friday night, it was less challenge and more of a show.
James was spectacular early and solid in the fourth quarter. Most importantly, he was clutch late, drilling a game-sealing 3-pointer with 52.8 seconds left to secure a 105-95 Cleveland Cavaliers (9-4) victory over the Indiana Pacers (5-5) in front of 18,165 at Conseco Fieldhouse.
"It's kind of like pick your poison," Granger, the Pacers' All-Star forward who had 19 points, said of James' game-clincher. "You either let him get to the lane or let him pull up for a jump shot.
"He was really hitting those from the perimeter."
The Cavaliers, who played without center Shaquille O'Neal for a fourth consecutive game, have won three of those four, and on Friday night, they rallied from a five-point fourth-quarter deficit.
James, who entered the game averaging 28.3 points per game, finished with 40 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, with the game-clincher his lone 3-point field-goal of the night.
"Sometimes, there's not a lot you can do when you're playing one of the premier players in the league," said Pacers coach Jim O'Brien, who watched most of the game from the locker room after a first-quarter ejection.
O'Brien was thrown out of the game with 5:20 left in the first period after drawing two technical fouls for walking out to near midcourt to argue with officials.
Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said of James, "He had a big night -- his will and ability to attack . . . when he does that he makes us good. It not only makes us good offensively, but it gives us energy defensively."
The game-clinching 3-pointer came from 25 feet, the sort of shot Brown said might have been of questionable judgment for any other player but James.
"The shots he takes, there aren't many guys who can take and make those," Brown said, recalling James' memorable Game 5 in the 2007 Eastern Conference semifinals in which he scored the final 25 points of a Cavaliers victory over the Pistons. "Every shot he took in that game was a bad shot for everybody except him.
"People ask me every once in a while, 'You think LeBron's taking bad shots?' You have to be careful when you have a player like that. If he wasn't taking and making those shots, we wouldn't win a lot of games. . . . Sometimes the best coaching is to get out his way."
James, asked by a reporter afterward if he wanted the ball in his hands at those sorts of moments, smiled and kiddingly asked the questioner how long he had been doing his job.
"You should know better than to ask me if I want the ball down the stretch," James said.
But Brown said as pleased as he was with James' late performance, he was just as pleased with how the Cavaliers took control of the game -- with a solid fourth-quarter defensive effort and clutch late shooting. The Cavaliers were outscored by Washington 64-40 in the second half of a 108-91 loss Wednesday, a loss that snapped a five-game winning streak.
"Our defense got us back in the game and kept us ahead," Brown said. "It was good to see. We didn't panic."
The Cavaliers have won 15 of 17 games against Indiana, including six of eight in Indianapolis. Brown said he also liked the Cavaliers' balance late, with guard Mo Williams scoring 18 points, forward J.J. Hickson finishing with 15 and guard Anthony Parker finishing with 12.
Anderson Varejao added 12 off the bench.
"I can't do it myself," James said. "I know that. I have great teammates that come to play every night."
Indiana, like Cleveland, had won five consecutive games entering Wednesday, but now have lost second-half leads in their last two games. They lost a 19-point lead in a loss to the New York Knicks at home Wednesday.
The teams were tied 38-38 at the end of the first quarter despite 16 points from James on 7 of 7 shooting, and the Cavaliers pulled ahead, 66-61, at halftime. Cleveland, which out-rebounded Indiana, 22-15, in the first half, shot 55.8 percent in the first half, but started the second half slow as the Pacers pulled ahead.
"In the third we came out flat," Brown said. "I give the Pacers credit. They did a good job and stepped up their play physically. In the fourth, we turned it around."
Indiana took a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter and led 82-77 entering the fourth quarter, but Cleveland rallied quickly to tie it 82-82 a little more than a minute into the fourth period.
"Our defense wasn't that bad down the stretch," Granger said. "Offensively, we got some decent looks, but they played defense and pushed us to the shot clock."
Said Pacers forward Troy Murphy, "Our offense was stagnant and there was a lot of standing around. We moved the ball well the first three quarters, but not so good in the fourth."

Female Viagra?!?!

I'm just browsing and reading some blogs.. but this blog caught my attention & got interested on MoTwister's blog about a upcoming female viagra haha! maybe some men around the world is rejoicing haha! here's some info

A failed anti-depression drug may end the elusive search for the female version of Viagra. During its initial clinical testing, flibanserin didn't cheer women up; rather, many who took it reported "an increased libido that they liked." This led to a series of studies in which pre-menopausal women in three countries went on a 24-week course of the drug and documented in a diary the intensity of their sexual desires and how many satisfactory sexual encounters they had. While Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medications work on the blood supply, flibanserin achieves its action on the fairer sex by heading directly for a female's sexually complicated brain.

Battle of the Losers!!!

Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton, who both lost in their bouts this year to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, respectively, will reportedly have a face-off next year.

“I have informed [Marquez] of the possibility of a showdown in England, in Manchester, against Ricky Hatton, and he... accepted the opportunity,” revealed Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer to BBC Sport. Schaefer is Hatton’s American promoter.

“Juan Manuel accepted the challenge and would love to come to Manchester,” he added.

Schaefer also disclosed that Hatton’s lawyer, Gareth Williams, told him that the Briton “would like to fight Marquez.” Williams earlier said that the Marquez bout would be an “ideal fight” for Hatton.

Mayweather defeated Marquez by unanimous decision in September while Pacquiao trumped Hatton via a second round knockout in May.

Marquez also suffered defeat in the hands of Pacquiao by split decision in their rematch in 2008, following their draw in 2004. Hatton, meantime, was defeated by Mayweather in 2007 by TKO in Round 10.

Schaefer went on to say that a Marquez-Hatton clash would be a “great, great all-action showdown so I'm frankly extremely excited if that fight could happen.”

Marquez, 36, has a record of 50-5-1, with 37 knockouts. He is the current WBO, WBA and Ring Magazine lightweight champion.

The 31-year-old Hatton, on the other hand, has 45 wins and 2 losses, with 32 KOs. He is the former IBO light welterweight and Ring Magazine junior welterweight champion. He lost both titles to Pacquiao in the “Battle of the East and West.”

LeBron believes he 'could be really good' in the NFL - WHAAAAAATT!?!?!

CLEVELAND (AP) -- LeBron James watched the Cleveland Browns get shut out by Baltimore on Monday night and came to one simple conclusion: He could help.

"If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good," the Cavaliers superstar said before facing the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. "No matter what team I was on."
The Browns have one of the NFL's most anemic offenses, a key problem during their 1-8 start. The NBA's reigning MVP certainly couldn't make things any worse.
James was an All-Ohio wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School before quitting football after his junior year to focus on basketball. But he still follows the game closely and believes he could have been a hybrid tight end/receiver in the mold of San Diego's Antonio Gates or Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez.
Gates, who played basketball in college and not football, is listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds. James is listed at 6-8 and 250 pounds.
"They're not always lined up next to the tackle," James said. "Sometimes they go against strong safeties and linebackers. It's tough to match up with those guys because they're so athletic."
James filmed a commercial last year for an insurance company that depicted him in a No. 23 Browns jersey with "LeBron" stitched across the back.
He has no serious plans of returning to football, but said playing the two sports takes entirely different types of stamina.
"I'd be in football shape during football season, then I'd go to basketball and feel like I was out of shape," he said. "It's totally different. And another thing you have to get used to is getting hit again."
Since James never went to college, it was mentioned he still may have eligibility remaining if he wanted to try playing college football. There is just the issue of the $90 million shoe contract James signed with Nike before ever playing a game in the NBA.
"What if I gave it all back?" he joked.

FlashForward! --> Highly Recommended!

A must see series! bad-ass!!

A mysterious event causes everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 137 seconds, during which people see what appear to be visions of their lives approximately six months in the future - a global “flashforward”. A team of Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and spearheaded by Mark Benford (Fiennes), begin the process of determining what happened, why, and whether it will happen again. Benford contributes a unique perspective on the investigation; in his flashforward, he saw the results of six months of investigation that he had done on the flashforward event, and he and his team use those clues to recreate the investigation.

The team investigates a number of events related to the flashforward, including "Suspect Zero," who did not lose consciousness during the event, the sinister "D. Gibbons", and a similar mass loss of consciousness in Somalia in 1991. Meanwhile, personal revelations contained within the flashforwards occupy the personal lives of the principal characters. Mark Benford sees his alcoholism relapsing, his wife sees herself with another man, and other characters grapple with similarly unexpected or surprising revelations in their flashes forward.
